Mock Job Interview

Mock Job Interview - Could this be the best way to practise for your dream job interview?

Will a Mock interview really help me get my dream job.

If you are really dreading your job interview there are certain steps you can take to help you, and make your experience less stressful.

To be certain your next job interview flows well (and lands you the position!), why not try setting up some Mock Job Interviews?

These are meetings that you arrange with a trusted friend or family member so that you can be better prepared for your face-to-face interview.

Or if you don’t feel comfortable with this, there are other alternatives; an online mock interview training programme for instance, or an interview coach (this can be quite expensive).

I will explain these options later (because it’s not always easy to arrange for a family or friend to help you out).

Mock interviews are a way for you to feel easier about your future Job interview for a number of different reasons, including those listed below:

1. Mock job interviews can help expose your strengths and weakness in certain areas.

During a mock interview, the person sitting opposite you is likely to ask at least one question that leaves you totally stumped.

Taken aback, you may hesitate or even fail to answer, just sit there in silence!

Though this sounds like an awkward situation, it's actually a terrific learning opportunity you can learn so much from this.

That means if a weak spot is exposed, you'll have time to figure out how to answer difficult mock interview questions before your actual interview takes place.

2. You'll get instant feedback after your mock job interview.

If your friend or loved one is truly honest (and insist upon it or the mock interview will be ineffective), you'll get plenty of information on how you came across during the interview discussion.

For example, you may find out that you tended shift in your seat while answering certain mock interview questions, or you may discover that you were too quiet, which made you appear nervous or self-conscious.

Though this type of feedback can be hard to hear, it's better to receive it before you meet your potential employer who will not be impressed.

3. Your friend, or person playing the interviewer may be able to offer some pointers.

Your friend might tip you off to a bad habit that you never even realized you had!

The more you know about yourself, the more opportunity you'll have to keep those behaviours in check on the day of your actual interview.

  • You can sit in the interviewer's seat
  • One type of mock job interview that you might find extremely effective is for someone to play you.
  • You then get to play the role of the interviewer.
  • This experience can be very enlightening.
  • The advantage of this is you will be asking the questions.

It's a great idea to have a go at role-reversal, and it will completely change your view point on your upcoming meeting.

The more you practice your mock job interview; you will find that you will become more relaxed and your confidence will begin to grow, which will lead you to a much more rewarding job interview experience.

Some of you will not have the time, or feel uncomfortable asking a friend or a member of your family for help, but there are other alternatives.

One of the best, cheapest and most convenient (if you have access to a computer) ways is an online job interview training course .

There are a few companies that offer this service but I have to say I was very impressed by a company called Interview Gold.

Interview Gold will tailor your job interview training.

or check out Interview Gold yourself you won't be disappointed.

And lastly you could get an Interview Coach (The CV Centre offer this service).

Interview coaches can be very expensive but if you are going for your dream job it might be worth the extra cost.

For a 2 hour consultation you would be paying approx £140.

These prices do differ a great deal from company to company.

My best advice would be to use a combination.

I would use an online interview training course to set out in my own mind what questions would be asked.

Practise the answers with the online course, until I felt confident, and I would then ask a member of my family or a friend to sit down with me and do a mock job interview.

I cannot guarantee you'll be offered every job you go for, but with this level of preperation, and attention to detail your success rate will go through the roof!
