World's greatest cover letters.

Then

Don't worry -- your e-mail address is totally secure.
I promise to use it only to send you Sentient Outlook.

Is it worth the effort?

Will it appear too fawning?

Writing a post interview thank you letter or email is DEFINATELY worth the tiny amount of effort required.

The Reasons

  • You will be one of a very small percentage of people who do bother.
  • It’s a common courtesy that will mark you as considerate and professional.
  • It gives you the chance to pass on your subliminal “I’m the best person for the job message”.
  • It provides the opportunity to raise any points that you failed to cover at interview, or address any mistakes you felt you made.

In a highly competitive market it can be the smallest detail that wins the day.

Don’t let someone else steal this advantage!

What should a Interview Thank You Letter contain?

Firstly the follow up can be either a letter that is posted, or an email sent as soon as possible after your interview.

The choice of which you send is up to you depending on your reading of the interviewer.

If your feel they will respond better to the more formal and obviously more effort required posted thank you – send them a posted thank you.

If the speed and less formal nature of email works better – go email.

It does not matter they both must contain the same points.

  • A sincere and personalized thank you, reminding them of the date and position interviewed for.
  • Confirmation of your interest, weaving in something the interviewer told you was important for the role that you are good at.
  • Close the letter by thanking the interviewer again, and positively stating how you look forward to hearing from them; with your contact details included

An example may look like this

Your Address details (Not required for email)
    House or Flat number
    Street
    Zip / Post Code

    Dear Mr or Mrs Name,

Thank you very much for your time today and the courtesy extended to me during my interview for the Risk Management Consultant role.

I really enjoyed learning about ABC company, and the strategic need for previous risk consulting experience, gained within the energy sector.

I am excited that this fits perfectly with my previous consulting experience, and that my career ambitions seem perfectly aligned with ABC’s development plans and culture.

Once again, thank you for your time, I am really looking forward to hearing from you regarding the next stage.

The best way of contacting me is by mobile tel number (insert tel number) or email (insert email address).

Yours sincerely (for posted letter) or Kind regards (for email)
