Fast Resume

Fast resume is all about getting your resume done as quickly and as painlessly as possible.

The ONLY job your resume has to do is get you invited for interview. So by creating a resume real quick we will also avoid damaging the quality.

A resume though unbearably dull to create is really a very simple document to get together once you have some basic information prepared for insertion.

This article will tell you all the information you will need to find out, ready to put in your resume, and it will also show you what makes a resume win you interviews.

The old saying “it is not what you say, but how you say it”, holds true for resumes; the words you use are EVERYTHING. This article will explain what employers want to read in your resume, and help you select the words to wrap around your unique experience.

I promised fast resumes, so let us get going.

Your resume will include some of the following information, so collect and have ready.

  • Your Name
  • Personal Information (gender, nationality, drivers license)
  • Contact Detail – telephone numbers and email address – state your contact preference.
  • Education / Qualifications
  • Training / Certification / Licences
  • Employment / Career History
  • Voluntary work
  • Thought leadership / Articles / Public Speaking
  • Hobbies / Interests ONLY if relevant.

You can download free Microsoft Word templates from this site, or use the CV resume template options that come with any word processor program like Microsoft Word.

Your resume only has to do enough to intrigue or compel the reader to invite you for interview; it has to be a brief, punchy sales document. So keep it to no more than two pages ideally one page. If you can use one word instead of two, do it. Use bullet points to shorten paragraphs into one liners.

Don’t list endless responsibilities, write about achievements, show you have goals, and take action towards achieving them. Employers want results, and specifically efficiency / profitability / savings. Demonstrate how you contribute to these ends.

To help you we have power words and power statements for you to use, or to help inspire your own writing.

Now MOST IMPORTANT your resume has to start of with a BANG!

Or in other words your most powerful sales message targeted at your intended reader. This will take the form of either or an objective / summary / profile / executive / skills / achievements statement, or even a combo of one of two of these.

If you have no work experience, you will likely lead with education and academics, or if these are poor lead with some other achievement such as sporting.

My favourite opening statement is the resume objective statement as it aligns what you want with what your target wants, which is super powerful, and will pack your diary with interviews.

If you hate the idea of writing your own sales copy for your fast resume you can either pay somebody to do it for you (from $100), or use a resume building software. I personally recommend trying to do it yourself, but if you don’t have time these programs will churn out a very marketing savvy resume in around 15 minutes for about $30-40 with money back guarantee.
