academic history, paved the way for a highly enjoyable, but remarkably
unsuccessful 6 years as a pro-golfer, where the many distractions, and
obvious lack of natural talent soon marked my card (excuse the
pun).
I then embarked on a corporate sales career, selling both systems and
services, for various telecommunications companies (Mitel, SVS, and
Energis), before setting up Sentient Selection Ltd in 1998.
Though I did not set out to specialise in Business Continuity
recruitment, one of my earliest assignments was to find the head of a
then brand new Business Continuity Practice within a Large US IT
services firm.
The assignment was a success, and in helping to grow the team through
subsequent years, my bond with Business Continuity had been formed.
Though we recruit for other disciplines
I am delighted that BCM
remained the staple.

Why move from sales to recruitment?
"
I had been on both sides of the recruitment fence, and felt I could add
something. I wanted to start my own business, and given the chance to
with a very talented and established recruiter took the opportunity."
Any
Regrets?
"I hope I have learnt my lessons
on the way, but as there is no rewind - No Regrets"
Would
you advice a younger brother or sister to go into Business Continuity
or some other specialism?
"Some other
specialisms pay a lot more, and there is often frustration that though
critical to most organisations Business Continuity can be sidelined as
it may be seen as the art of recovering from what may never happen. On
the positive side BCM touches every function of a business, and is
therefore provides great opportunity for variety and challenge... YES!"
What do you think the next year
will bring?
"Being of an optimistic and upbeat nature,
I'll answer by saying that I have some service ideas that I am excited
about turning into reality"
What would be
your three best recruitment tips for Business Continuity job seekers?
"For your CV always translate responsibilities into tangible
achievement statements, and if you can add one or two verifiable
testimonials from bosses, co workers, clients. This removes any hint of
skepticism for the reader and will triple your interview rate!"
"Use the STAR method (I will put a link to it below) to frame your
achievements on your CV, and translate them into practiced STAR stories
ready for your interview"
"View interviewers for what they are. People who WANT to hire YOU. They
don't want to spend their lives interviewing, they want you to be the
right person for the job. Be yourself, be positive and go with the
intention meeting someone new and enjoying it!"
What

"Loyal
like a Labrador, Fun Like a Labrador Puppy, Integrity Like a Labrador
guide dog!"
- my wife wanted to add pain in the @#X# like trying to train a guide
dog puppy, which she did once.
